The Christian life is often referred to as a “walk” in the Bible. That’s what Paul had in mind when he wrote, “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise” (Ephesians 5:15) Solomon wrote in Proverbs 15:21, “Folly is joy to him who lacks sense, But a man of understanding walks straight.” It is highly important that we pay attention to how we live (or how we walk) as Christians. Way too often, we look lightly at what we do on a daily basis, as if it doesn’t matter so much.
The Bible talks a lot about our “walk” as Christians:
In Ephesians 4:1, Paul writes, “I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called” If you are going to claim to be a Christian, and genuinely trust in Christ – then ACT like it!
Romans 13:13 instructs us to walk in purity, “Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy.”
2 Corinthians 5:7 reminds us HOW we are to walk, “for we walk by faith, not by sight.” You can’t live the Christian life without faith!
Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” We are to seekto do that which is good and pleasing to God.
Paul reminds us in Ephesians 4:17, “Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds.” Way too often, we follow the world rather than God! It should not be so!
Ephesians 5:2-3 tells us we are to love God and others, “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
In verse 8 of that chapter, he tells us again how we are to be different than the world around us, “for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”
Basically, we are to walk in the truth of God’s Word, and according to His plan and purpose for our lives. “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” (3 John 3)
The Christian life is a DAILY WALK. And it is HIGHLY important HOW we walk! How is YOUR walk coming?
