One of the biggest mistakes we make as humans is to try to fit God into our humanness and ability to understand. We argue that God can’t do this or shouldn’t do that. We say “Well, if God really loved me, He would….” or “If God really cared, this wouldn’t have happened.” J. I. Packer said, “We think of God as too much like we are. Put this mistake right, says God; learn to acknowledge the full majesty of your incomparable God.” God is SO MUCH more than we could ever even comprehend, and when we begin to fully look at Him and understand Him as much as our human minds will allow – we stand in awe, and like the song, we sing “How Great Thou Art!”
God transcends every limitation of space. When Solomon built the temple He said “But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain you; how much less this house that I have built!” (1 Kings 8:27)
God never changes. “For I the Lord do not change…” (Malachi 3:6)
We can not even acurately or truly picture God. “No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.” (John 1:18)
God does whatever He wants to do, and no one can stop Him. “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted” (Job 42:2)
And God can not be truly compared to anything else that we know. “To whom then will you compare me, that I should be like him? says the Holy One.” (Isaiah 40:25)
The true and Holy God is much much more than you or I could ever imagine or describe. So, when He says “trust Me” and “follow Me”, we should so quickly throw out any arguement or reason for not doing so and run to Him – the Almighty God and Creator, because He rules over everything, and His plans are absolutely perfect.
