They don’t have them much in today’s world with all our new technologies and stuff, but a lof of places used to have carbon copy forms and sheets. Basically you had two or three pieces of paper with a carbon sheet between each sheet of paper. So, whatever you wrote on the top sheet would be copied exactly on the other sheets via the carbon.
That’s what our lives should look like in this world. We should be carbon copies of Jesus Christ and His life on this earth. We read in 1 Peter 2:21, “For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps…”
Young people often mimic the actions, words, and behavior of their mother or father. When a young person behaves a certain way, sometimes people will say, “they obviously learned that from their father or from their mother.” So, in our lives as Christians, we should live in such a way that people say, “Obviously they learned that from Jesus!” We were created in His image to become like Him! Nothing else in our lives will make sense until we get this straight – when we learn we are to so closely follow Jesus Christ that others see Him in us!
Remember, these verses…
“…Be ye holy; for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16)
“…just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” (John 13:34)
“whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.” (1 John 2:6)
“For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.” ( John 13:15)
There is no missing the point in these verses and there are many others. We are to walk and live as Jesus Christ did, and we are to follow Him so closely that we become “carbon copies” of our Savior! Yes, that’s a LOT to live up to, but that should be our goal and passion each day – to follow Him!
