During a long flight on a stormy night, an airplane encountered a lot of turbulance, lightning strikes, and was bouncing around in the sky. All of the passengers were terrified. They hung on to the seats, stared out the window at the storm around them, and some even cried. However, there was one young lady who sat there calmly reading a book, seemingly unaware that there was even a storm going on. Someone asked her, “Aren’t you afraid?” “No,” she replied, “my father is piloting this plane – he knows what he’s doing!” That young girl didn’t pay attention to the storms, because her mind was focused on the fact that her father was in control.
No matter what storms we face in this life, our Heavenly Father is piloting – and He knows exactly what He is doing. There is absolutely nothing to be afraid of as long as we keep our focus on Him.
Remember when there was a storm on the sea of Galilee, all Jesus had to do is say “Peace – be still”, and the wind and the waves were calmed! When Lazarus had been dead and buried for three days, all Jesus had to do was say “Come Forth!”, and Lazarus was brought back from the dead. When there were 5000+ people who were hungry, Jesus fed them from just a handful of bread and fish.
If He can take care of all of those things so easily, the light problems and troubles we face in this life should be a piece of cake for Him. All the more reason to trust Him more! And all the more reason to stick as close to Him as we possibly can.
But, before you just go running to Him when you have problems, remember – we must keep His commandments! I like what Alexander Whyte (1837-1921) said, “No man’s prayer is acceptable with God whose life is not well pleasing before God.” It matters how we live each and every single day of our lives! If we want help in our problems, we must walk close with the One who can handle them!
