One of the clearest and plainest verses in the entire Word of God is found in John 14:15, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” I hear a lot of people who claim to know Christ, but insist that we don’t have to obey the commandments found in the Bible. Many people even go as far as to say it is “legalism” to insist that we must obey God’s “rules” and “commandments”.
In the first place…legalism has to do with salvation and claiming that one must do certain things to obtain salvation. It has nothing to do with our behaviour and actions AFTER salvation. After salvation, we are commanded to obey God’s Word!
However, if we are TRULY a child of the King, obeying Him will not be something we do because we “HAVE TO” do it…it will be what we do because we LOVE HIM! If we TRULY Love Him, we will want to obey Him, please Him, and do all that brings Honor and Glory to our gracious Heavenly Father who loved US!
Jesus said again in John 14:21, “Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me.”
