Psalm 34:6-10 says, “This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, and rescues them. O taste and see that the LORD is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him! O fear the LORD, you His saints; For to those who fear Him there is no want. The young lions do lack and suffer hunger; But they who seek the LORD shall not be in want of any good thing.”
One of the many blessings we get when we give our lives in complete surrender to Almighty God, is God protects and keeps us from harm.
The story is told about two missionaries many years ago in Africa. Someone in their homeland had wired some money to them to help supply their needs, however the missionaries had to walk over a days journey to a distant village that had a bank where they could pick up the necessary funds.
While they were returning to their mission hospital, night overtook them and they realized they’d have to camp along the trail side. They prayed and committed themselves and their lives to God, and then laid down on the side of a hill to sleep.
Some weeks later a man came to the mission hospital for treatment of a wound. He stared intently at the missionary doctor. “I have seen you before,” he said. “No, I don’t think we have ever met,” replied the doctor. “But we have met before! You were sleeping one night on a hillside. Several of us saw you withdraw some money from the bank in that village. We followed you, intending to rob you when it got dark. But we could not get near you because you were surrounded by soldiers.” “Soldiers?” exclaimed the missionary. “There were no soldiers with us, we were alone!” The visiting man replied, “But there were soldiers with you – sixteen of them. They had their swords drawn, and were surrounding you as you slept. We were filled with fear and ran away!”
Even out in the middle of the African jungle, God is still in control of everything! He sent His angels to guard a poor missionary doctor and his companion as they made their way from the mission station to a distant village to get the money they needed to do God’s work.
In our lives, we NEVER have ANYTHING to fear as long as we trust God. There are two basic principles to the Christian life. 1. Trust God and 2. Obey Him. Everything falls under those two categories. And when we strive to live our lives as He commands us to do, when we give Him control of everything, we don’t even have to fear bandits on a dark trail in the heart of Africa. NOTHING can happen to us, unless it’s part of His PERFECT plan.
So, we can go on with our normal lives like the rest of the world, and worry about stuff all the time, or we can give everything to God and have NOTHING to worry about.
I think I’ll take the 2nd choice!
“…they who seek the LORD shall not be in want of ANY good thing.”
Seek God while He may be found! Find in Him true peace and joy like we can find no where else! That alone makes following close to Him worth it all!
