I was cleaning out my closet this weekend, and came across a book titled “Positive Quotations”. In that book are thousands of quotations from all sort of people, everyone from positive thinkers to movie stars and beyond. I looked at the book for a moment, and then I thought, “Why do I need this? I have all the positive quotations I need in the Bible!”
You see, the Bible tells us that the wisdom of this world is foolishness. Oh, humans without God occasionally come up with witty statements, and say things in a positive way perhaps, but their thoughts and observations can’t even compare with the wisdom found in God’s Word.
If you want to be inspired, if you want to get some “positive” thoughts going through your mind, read God’s Word!
Joshua 1:8-9 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Jeremiah 29:13 “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
Proverbs 3:5-8 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.”
There are countless verses in the Bible that teach very positive truths. And God’s truths are never failing. What other “positive” thoughts do we need?
Isaiah 26:3 “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”
