Many years ago, an elderly farmer was in Washington DC, visiting his son, who was a United States Senator. When his son introduced him to the visiting Ambassador to Belgium, the farmer asked, “Sir, are you a Christian?” His son, being greatly embarassed, quickly changed the subject. A few months later, the farmer passed away. Upon hearing of his death, the Ambassador to Belgium sent flowers to the funeral. Along with the flowers was a note which read, “He was the only man in America who cared enough to ask me if I was a Christian.”
Why is it we find it so easy to talk to others about entertainment, about pleasures, about relationships, about life – yet we find it so often difficult to talk about Jesus?
I think the main problem is, we focus so much of our life’s attention on those other things rather than on God! If we focused all of our attention on Jesus Christ and His amazing love, care, and kindness towards us – we would scarcly be able to talk about anything without mentioning Him.
We seldom see God do anything amazing in our lives, because we never give Him a chance. In order for us to truly have a relationship with God and His Son Jesus Christ, we’ve got to make HIM our DAILY LIFE! Everything we do should be focused on pleasing and honoring Him, and in pointing others to Him.
When Paul wrote to the Christians at Rome, he wrote, “First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.” (Romans 1:8). People all over the known world at that time had heard of these Christians and their great faith and trust in God.
What about the people who know us? Do they hear about out great faith and trust in God? Do they even know we are trusting in Him?
Herbert Buffum, born in 1879 wrote the words to a hymn entitled “Let’s Talk About Jesus”. THe chorus goes like this:
Let’s talk about Jesus,
the King of Kings is He.
The Lord of Lord’s supreme,
through all eternity.
The Great I AM, The Way.
The Truth, the Life, the Door,
Let’s talk about Jesus,
more and more.
Let’s get to know Jesus Christ so well this year that every day we talk about Him!
