You may have read the story in the Bible about the Samaritan woman who met Jesus at the well outside her city. When she offered Him water from that earthly well, Jesus told her He could offer her “water” that she could drink of and NEVER be thirsty again. Of course, He was talking about the “water” of salvation and life in Jesus Christ.
Read what Jesus said to her in John 4:13,14; “Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”
Like the woman at the well I was seeking
For things that could not satisfy;
But then I heard my Savior speaking:
Draw from my well that never shall run dry.
There are millions in this world who are craving
The pleasures earthly things afford;
But none can match the wondrous treasure
That I find in Jesus Christ my Lord.
So, my children, if the things this world gave you
Leave hungers that won’t pass away,
My blessed Lord will come and save you,
If you kneel to Him and humbly pray:
People for centuries have tasted of the “waters” that this world offers, and have found they are still thirsty for more. And those who have come and given themselves completely to Jesus Christ have found that HE ALONE satisfies like NOTHING in this world can even compare too.
Voltaire, the famous French writer and infidel, wrote: “I wish I had never been born.” So happiness did not come by unbelief.
Lord Byron, a British poet and a leading figure in the Romantic movement, had numerous love affairs, yet, he said: “The worm, the canker, and grief are mine alone.” Pleasure did not bring him happiness.
On his deathbed Jay Gould, one of America’s richest men, said: “I suppose I am the most miserable man on earth.” His wealth did not bring happiness.
Disraeli, the famous British prime minister, wrote: “Youth is a mistake; manhood a struggle; old age regret.” Position and fame did not make him happy.
Alexander the Great conquered the known world, yet wept in his tent because there were no more worlds to conquer. Conquests did not make him happy.
Nothing in this world will EVER fulfill the desires of our heart like Jesus can. But, we have to give Him control of EVERYTHING to find that relationship with Him that will bring us TRUE joy in our lives!
“Happy are the people who are in such a state; Happy are the people whose God is the LORD!” (Psalm 144:15)
“Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope is in the LORD his God” (Psalm 146:5)
“Blessed is the one who fears the LORD always, but whoever hardens his heart will fall into calamity.” (Proverbs 28:14)
“He who gives heed to the word will prosper, and happy is he who trusts in the LORD.” (Proverbs 16:20)
C. S. Lewis said, “God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there.”
On his deathbed, Adoniram Judson, American missionary to Burma said:
“I go with the gladness of a boy bounding away from school. I feel so strong in Christ.”
John Lyth, a Methodist preaching in the 1800’s said:
“Can this be death? Why, it is better than living! Tell them I die happy in Jesus!”
The world may try to satisfy
That longing in your soul.
You may search the wide world over
But you’ll be just as before.
You’ll never find true satisfaction
Until you’ve found the Lord,
For only Jesus can satisfy your soul.
Only Jesus can satisfy your soul.
Yes, only He can change your heart
And make you whole.
He’ll give you peace you never knew,
Sweet joy and love and Heaven, too.
For only Jesus can satisfy your soul.
You will find TRUE Happiness in HIM ALONE – NOWHERE ELSE!!
