When the nation of Israel was journeying from Egypt to the promised land, they got discouraged, they forgot God’s blessings, and they let the doubts and fears get the best of them. When they finally reached the Jordan river and were about to cross over into what God had told them all along would be a great land He had given to them, they lost their faith, they let self and flesh get in the way of believing. Look at Deuteronomy 1:29-33, “Then I said to you, ‘Do not be in dread or afraid of them. The LORD your God who goes before you will himself fight for you, just as he did for you in Egypt before your eyes, and in the wilderness, where you have seen how the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, all the way that you went until you came to this place.’ Yet in spite of this word you did not believe the LORD your God, who went before you in the way to seek you out a place to pitch your tents, in fire by night and in the cloud by day, to show you by what way you should go.”
In spite of all God had already done for them, they still did not completely trust Him, and it cost them great blessing! Look at verses 34-35, “And the LORD heard your words and was angered, and he swore, ‘Not one of these men of this evil generation shall see the good land that I swore to give to your fathers…'” They had to wander in the wilderness for 40 more years until all of those who didn’t believe had died off, and only THEN could the nation of Israel enter the land that God had provided.
How often do we miss out on great blessings in our lives, simply because we do not have faith in God…we doubt Him…we become too anxious and fear the world and those around us, when God has all along promised us great blessings if we trust and obey. Not having faith in God cripples our lives and destroys them. If we claim to trust Him for salvation and for all of eternity, we should also trust Him and believe His Word for today and tomorrow!! Don’t let unbelief rob you of what God has promised!
