Joshua Goodling: Terminal Cancer Survivor, Speaker, Author

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

When Joshua speaks to young people - they listen. School staff and youth ministers are often shocked at how closely young people listen when Joshua speaks to them. When a crowded gymnasium with over 1000 students sits perfectly quiet and motionless hanging on each and every word, you know they want to hear what Joshua has to say. When Joshua talks about overcoming obstacles, making a difference, kindess, or even how to have a true relationship with Jesus Christ, young people know he speaks from experience and from his heart. Joshua often receives comments, letters, and emails from these young people, and here are several examples. God is using his life to impact and even change the lives of the young people to whom he speaks.

"I am a 6th grade student. Two weeks ago you came to my school on Friday at our school's FCA. For the first time in my life I was really taking in God's word and understanding what it was to be a Christian. I finally felt with no doubt that I was a Christian and I finally knew how to be one. That day I understood why God has a plan for everyone. I am sure that other people were understanding God through you. Thank you so much for what you have done for me and my school. Your an amazing person with an amazing story. PLEASE come back sometime soon to enlighten our school again, as you know that all middle schoolers need someone like you."

"I just wanted to say you are different from all the other speaker we have had. I could tell God has called YOU to come speak to us. You had a huge impact on my life as well as many others. I was talking to my friend and she said she was on the verge of crying. Anyways you are AMAZING!!!!"

"My life lately hasn't been what I like to call "happy". I've been depressed for years, and for a brief time almost found happiness, but suicide was on my mind friday, until I heard you speak and decided to continue my life!"

"Your story amazed me, you are truly amazing! You have made me think really hard about my life. I have had some really bad troubles in my life, but hearing yours I've realized that I'm a luckier one. Your seven secrets to happiness have made me a lot happier already! I just love how you are not afraid to be who you are, and you're not afraid to tell your story. You are an amazing person and I will always remember the day I saw you."

"I wanted to extend my sincerest gratitude for the work you do with our students. You recently spoke to students at 12 for Life, and I am so glad you were able to come out. I was unable to attend your seminar and in fact did not know you visited until one of my students came by today to talk to me. He said you have really changed his outlook on both school and life. I have noticed a positive change in his performance, and he credited much of that to your influence. He has been struggling this year and even considering dropping out, so it's great to see such a change in him. I cannot thank you enough!"

I'm so glad you came today. thank you"

"Your story just touched my heart and it was just amazing. I was so amazed how you kept pushing on and on even though it was a really rough time. That just shows how truly God cares and how amazing and powerful He is. Well let me just tell you that the first time I saw you I was really excited because I know God took care of you to keep you alive and that is just another reason I trust him. You are just an amazing person and I am so happy because anytime I am in a tough situation think of you and how you kept pushing forward and I am jut so glad your in my life. You are in my prayers and just know there is one more person that loves you from the bottom of their heart. "

"Joshua Goodling spoke at our middle school Christian club earlier this school year. Students were so moved by his testimony that many of them expressed that they believed he was talking directly to them. Some of them who have been dealing with divorce of parents, home issues, problems at school, etc. were encouraged by his moving testimony. They continue to ask when he is coming back to speak again. Mr. Goodling's life is a perfect example for students of how to respond when dealing with any type of adversity. He finds his strength and purpose in God and is using his testimony to minister to students. We thank God for him!"

"I wanted to let you know that your speech was life changing. I'm sure you have heard that before but it is true. After the speech I was so emotional and started to cry because you were a fighter. You fought and won a battle. I wanted you to know that no matter what if people make fun of you because of the way you look or the way you talk that you are a true hero. I have your pamphlet in my room and will read it whenever I am going through a tough situation and remember that you have conquered amazing things and I hope to follow in your footsteps."

- a student

"I would like to start off by telling you that your an amazing person and a strong man.You see I doubted god for many reasons before in the past, I always questioned why he did the things he did. When you came to talk to us you made me realize and understand that God has a plan for all of us. Your testimony opened my eyes and alot of people need to hear your story. God bless you joshua and thank you."

- a student

"Your message really changed my life, because before I heard you speak I always thought about giving up. I've always hated hard situations, and never liked to deal with them. But after hearing your message, I learned to never give up no matter how hard the situation is."

"My son, Cooper, brought your pamphlet home today about your life story after you spoke at his FCA meeting. What an wonderful story! I was amazed at how much you have had to overcome in your life, but even more so at your attitude and testimony to God's grace. Thanks for taking the time to share your message with my son and his school. The first thing he did when he got home was read every word in your pamphlet to me and tell me how much he enjoyed hearing your story. You are truly being used by God to influence young people's lives and I appreciate it. After Cooper read your pamphlet to me, he said, 'Dad, after hearing Joshua speak today, I realize how selfish I've been. He has had so many tough things happen to him in his life, but he still wants to praise God and says that he would do it all over again because of the way God has blessed him. I can't believe how selfish I've been complaining about the things in my life.'"

"You spoke at my school May 13 2016 and I was on the verge of killing myself but now I am going to change my life around. "

- a student

"I just wanted to thank you so much for coming and telling us your story. It was so inspiring and eye opening to hear about how God has worked in your life. I have accepted Christ and am an active participant in my church but I've never really felt a true connection to God. After hearing you speak(and almost crying at some parts of your story) I took some time to pray and talk to God. I feel truly happy now and I'd like to thank you for opening my eyes to that. I can't wait to see what God's plan is for me in my life and hope you an keep using your story to inspire people everywhere. Thank you again for speaking to us and have an amazingly awesome day!"

"We had the privilege to have Joshua Goodling speak to our entire 7th grade student body about making good choices. As he spoke, approximately 340 students sat listening hanging on to every word as he talk about the importance of choices we make. I feel that his presentation will prove to be a pivotal moment for some of our students."

"In addition to our FCA students, Joshua spoke during our Character Month Celebration Day. We had our whole eighth grade and third grade from another elementary school in attendance. It was an incredible message about character. Not one child in the whole assembly, close to 500 students, made a sound once he started speaking. The students remained quiet until he finished. Not only was his message awe inspiring for the students but the adults in attendance as well. I look forward to Joshua coming back to our school as soon as I can reschedule him."
