I sometimes wonder if many people even stop and think about what they are reading when (if) they read the Bible. The entire Word of God is filled with important lessons, warnings, and yes – commandments.
Take for example these verses:
“Doing wrong is like a joke to a fool, but wisdom is pleasure to a man of understanding.” (Proverbs 10:23) Too many people seem to think there is nothing wrong with doing wrong occassionally. And, we even laugh and make jokes about people doing wrong, and are entertained by movies and television shows where people do many things the Bible clearly tells us is wrong!
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” (John 14:15) This verse especially seems to be one that many people forget. It could not be more clear. IF you love God you WILL seek to daily obey Him…PERIOD!
“Whoever says ‘I know him’ but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.” (1 John 2:4-6) WOW…some pretty powerful words there. If we TRULY have a relationship with God, we WILL seek to obey Him, and follow the example given to us by Jesus Christ while here on this earth.
I could list many more verses that are CRYSTAL CLEAR as to their meaning, that people seem to not even think about or just ignore in the Word of God. One day we WILL stand before God and give an account of our lives. It is VERY important that we do what is right and follow as close to Him as we can through His amazing strength and power in our lives! When you read the Bible (and we should often) pay close attention to what you read! Stop and meditate on it, think about it, and live by it!
