I don’t know a single person who likes to have pain or problems, but they both are part of our lives as long as we live in this world. However, when we are trusting Jesus Christ as our Savior, we don’t have to worry about the pain and problems. They aren’t fun, but they often come at just the right moment when God knows we need them for some reason.
There are many stories of people who should have been in their offices at the World Trade Center in New York City on September 11th, but for various reasons they were not yet at the office. Some of them had car trouble, some missed a bus, some had other appointments, but one of my favorite stories is about a guy who had just the night before purchased a new pair of shoes. As he was walking to work in his new pair of shoes, he developed a blister on his foot. He had stopped in a drug store to purchase a band aid to place on the blister, and that is the reason he was late getting in the office that morning. He was not at his office when the planes struck the office towers because of a blister! A blister saved his life!
Now, blisters are painful and not fun! But if they save our lives – we would most certainly welcome them. At least I would think we would.
Just as that blister saved this man’s life – God allows pain and problems into our lives from time to time to keep us on the right track, or to get us back on the right track if we’ve gone astray from His perfect will for our lives.
It always puzzles me why we think we know better than God in how to run our lives. God created us, He has a perfect plan and perfect will for each of us. Our lives are best lived in accepting and following that plan. Only then can we truly experience true peace, true joy, and true happiness.
So, the next time you get a blister or something – remember that God is in control of everything even the pains and problems that we don’t necessarily enjoy. Everything happens for a reason and that reason is to make us better followers of the King of Heaven.
Unfortunately, blisters still hurt – but one day we will be with Jesus Christ in Heaven, and there will be NO MORE pain or blisters!!
What a day that will be,
When my Jesus I shall see,
When I look upon His face,
The One who saved me by His grace;
When He takes me by the hand,
And leads me through the Promised Land,
What a day, glorious day that will be.
