How often do we get impatient with God? We live in a world of impatient people. We want everything instantly. And often when we seek to give God control of our lives, we get impatient waiting for His perfect timing, and then we give up on God and go back to our old lives. So many people’s lives are ruined or destroyed because they got impatient and quit reading their Bible, stopped trying to live right, and left behind the commands that God says we should daily seek to obey. However, let’s look at a person in the Bible, who in our eyes may have had every right to give up on God – but didn’t. That would be Joseph. So, Joseph was about 17 years old when he was sold into slavery by his brothers. He spent 11 years in slavery and then was thrown into prison for something he didn’t even do. He spent 2 or more years in prison. Yet in all of those 13 – 15 years – he never gave up on God. We don’t read about how he finally just said “forget it, I’m tired of waiting for God to work!”. He wouldn’t have had the testimony that he had before others if he had given up on God! And FINALLY – after all those years where it often probably seemed like God had forgotten about Him, Joseph finds himself second in command of all of Egypt! Because that was God’s plan! God has a plan for each of our lives as well. And we can’t allow our flesh, the times of disappointment and discouragement, and the lusts of this world to make us impatient with God. Remember God’s Word “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” (Isaiah 26:3) Keep your mind focused on Him, and watch Him work in His perfect time and way! Don’t pay attention to your flesh, the world around you, or your friends and family who question why you are waiting. “they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31) |
