We read of the death of Abraham in Genesis 25:8, “Abraham breathed his last and died in a ripe old age, an old man and satisfied with life; and he was gathered to his people.” He was 175 when he died, but notice how it says he was “satisfied with life”. He was satisfied because he had chosen to obey God and keep His commandments. Not that he was perfect in everything he did, but that he trusted God. Paul reminded us in Romans 4:3, “For what does the Scripture say? ‘Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.'” That was the key to a satisfied life – faith in God!
Recall again Jesus words in the Sermon on the Mount, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” (Matthew 5:6) This world will never satisfy us. Neither position nor possessions can ever satisfy us. Only God can truly satisfy us, and only when we love Him more than anything else!
A. W. Pink (1886 – 1952) said, “The great mistake made by most of the Lord’s people is in hoping to discover in themselves that which is to be found in Christ alone.” It must be Christ ALONE that we seek after, and we MUST seek after Him with everything we have! Only then can we truly be satisfied with life!
As usual, I will warn you – it’s not an easy life following Him. However, I know from my own experience that there is an amazing joy, a wonderful peace, and true satisfaction in living a life where each day is all about Jesus Christ! This world is all about self – and look at the mess it’s in today. Remember Paul’s words, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galations 2:20)
