Jesus Christ asked His disciples a question in Matthew 16:15, “He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?'” It wasn’t that He didn’t know what they truly thought about Him, it was because He wanted THEM to reveal to themselves what they thought about Him.
A lot of times we say, “If I ever find myself in a certain situation, I know exactly what I’d do!” But then, we find ourselves in that situation, and the truth comes out – we often times don’t react the way we thought or even boasted we would react. So, what about us? What do we TRULY think about God and His Son?
We certainly know how John Newton thought about God. He penned the words, “Amazing grace! how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found, Was blind, but now I see.” He wasn’t shy about boasting of the Amazing God who had given him (a wretch) salvation!
People all over the world sing the words to that great hymn, and everytime I hear them sing, I wonder – “Are you even paying attention to the words you are singing? Do you truly think God and His grace are SO AMAZING?” If we are truly so amazed by the fact that God would love us enough to send His Son to die for us, we should also agree with the words to another hymn, “All that thrills my soul is Jesus; He is more than life to me; And the fairest of ten thousand, In my blessed Lord I see.”
When all the cards are on the table, and the truth finally comes out – what do we really think about Jesus? We’ll show the answer to that question by the way you live each day!
