When the Apostle Paul was on his way to Rome to stand trial before Ceasar, one of the leaders under control of the Roman’s whom Paul stood before was King Agrippa. As Paul stood before this King and shared with him why he preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ – we read in Acts 26:28, “And Agrippa said to Paul, ‘In a short time would you persuade me to be a Christian?'” Of course, the Bible doesn’t tell us that Agrippa ever came to know Christ, but history does tell us that he wasn’t a good person, he even had a sexual affair with his own sister. The point is, he believed some of what Paul was telling him, yet he wasn’t willing to give up his sin and trust Christ.
Thousands of people are just like Agrippa in the world today – they know in their hearts that the Gospel is true, and they are ALMOST to the point of trusting in Christ, yet they hold off because they are afraid it will change their life, and they like their sin and disobedience too much to give it up. However, as the Bible tells us, we will ALL one day stand before God, and when we stand before Him saying like Agrippa “I ALMOST trusted in Christ…” won’t cut it!
In fact, Hebrews warns us over and over “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” (Hebrews 3:7-8, 3:15, 4:7). Because, everytime people harden their hearts to Jesus Christ and reject the promptings of the Holy Spirit, they are just pounding another nail in their coffin, and pushing themselves closer and closer to eternity in hell. Almost is not good enough. We MUST trust Christ COMPLETELY and give Him our lives. I fear for the thousands who stand on the threshold “almost” becoming a Christian, but never making that life-changing choice. One day it will be too late.
