Psalm 27:14 says, “Wait for the LORD; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD.”
We live in a world of “instant” everything. We have microwaves that very quickly heat up food in an instant. We have the internet where we can instantly find out what is going on half way around the world, or on the other side of our country. And we all too often want “instant” gratification at things we attempt to do. It seems like when we decide to give God our lives, we want to instantly experience everything the Bible promises, and when things don’t happen as fast as we expect them to, we are tempted to just give up and say, “Nope…It doesn’t work…I’ve tried it!”
William Carey lived in England in the early 1800’s. As a young man, he gave his heart and life to Jesus Christ. He began to be burdened for the unsaved people who had never heard the gospel in other countries, and especially India. When he asked his minister about who was bringing the Word of God to India, his minister replied, “Young man, when God pleases to convert the heathen world, He will do it without your help or mine!” William Carey decided HE would go to India to bring the Gospel to that country. He spent 7 years preaching the Gospel and reaching out to those people before he even had ONE person come to know Jesus Christ. Yes – 7 years without a SINGLE convert. However, God soon began to answer, and many thousands came to know Jesus Christ around the world because of William Carey. He spent 40 years in India as a missionary and is often referred to as the faither of modern missions. William Carey once said, “Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God”.
Can you imagine spending 7 years trying to reach people with no response? Many would have given up and quit. But God tells us to “wait on Him.” After all, He IS GOD! He knows what He is doing. All He asks is that we do what He tells us to do!
Many times, God doesn’t instantly do what we want or think He should. But, don’t let that stop you from following Him. It may be that God opens that door in your life to something great tomorrow, or it may be next year – it’s not up to us to determine how or when God works, it is simply up to us to trust Him and Obey Him. Many times He is simply waiting for us to REALLY trust Him with ALL of our hearts. He wants us to rely COMPLETELY upon Him to work in our lives.
Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.” Don’t give up, don’t quit, don’t try to force things to happen. Simply realize that GOD is in COMPLETE control of everything. Our job is to trust Him, Obey Him, Seek Him, and get rid of the darkness in our lives so that we can truly have fellowship with Jesus Christ, and then our lives will be forever changed.
Be still, and know that I am God.
