The recent flooding in Colorado has contaminated and ruined man crops, making them inedible. These crops were perfectly fine and destined for the local food markets until the devistating flood waters with their dangerous chemicals, molds, bacteria, and other contaminates made the fruits and vegetables unhealthy to eat. Fruits, vegtables, and grains all need water to grow and survive, but they need healthy clean water in order to be good for us to eat.
Now, of course, crops have no control over the weather and over what may come along and contaminate them. But, on the other hand – we have control over what we allow into our lives that will either help or harm us in our walk with God and our daily lives. Jesus said in Luke 6:43-45, “For there is no good tree which produces bad fruit, nor, on the other hand, a bad tree which produces good fruit. For each tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they pick grapes from a briar bush. The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.”
What we allow into our lives and into our hearts on a daily basis affects the rest of our lives. Just like flood waters that may only last a couple of days can completely ruin a crop, even so – just allowing a few bad thoughts, wrong actions, and wicked desires into our lives can destroy us. It is HIGHLY important to make sure that we spend our lives focusing on Jesus Christ, that we follow Him and seek to do ONLY what is pleasing in His sight.
For example, If we hang out with the wrong people and allow them to influence us – they can contaminate our lives. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 15:33, “Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company ruins good morals.'” He wrote in Galations 6:8, “For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.” Giving in to our flesh and its desires corrupts and contaminates our lives.
Romans 8:6 warns us, “For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace” The ultimate question is – do we want to destroy our lives or do we want to KNOW God in amazing ways and find LIFE and PEACE? It all boils down to what we spend our time focusing on and what we allow into our lives each day.
Don’t contaminate yourself with the wisdom of this world. Focus on God and seek HIM with ALL of your heart!
