Peter reminds us in 2 Peter 1:3, “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,” The closer we walk with Him, the more we have and find through Him and in Him. God is an inexhaustible source of everything we could possibly need to live the life HE wants us to live. That alone should spur us on to know Him more and to do ALL that is necessary to truly have that right and perfect relationship with Him no matter what it “costs” us.
I have heard people say about living the Christian life “Oh, well – I tried to for a while, but it didn’t work for me.” But when further questioned about their Christian experience one finds that they never truly gave Him their entire hearts and lives. God reminds us that to TRULY know Him, we must seek after Him with ALL of our hearts.
It’s kind of like being overweight and so we join a gym. Well, if we never go to the gym it doesn’t do us any good and we can even say “Well, I joined the gym but it didn’t help me any.” Well, of course it didn’t help – we never used the resources available to us! And that’s the situation the vast majority of Christians are in today – They don’t use the resources available to them! And then, they wonder why they never get anywhere in their relationship with God. Note in the verse above, Peter tells us God’s divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to LIFE and GODLINESS – they are inseperable if we truly want to experience all He offers. We can’t say, “OH, well – I want all the blessings and provisions, but not so much all the Godliness.” It’s all or nothing.
Knowing God is the most amazing thing there is in this life and for all of eternity. He is EVERYTHING we need, but we have to leave the darkness to get to the light! Remember “God is light, and in him is no darkness AT ALL” (1 John 1:5) Everything we could ever need is found in the LIGHT – so why linger any longer in the darkness?
