A lot of highways have grooves in the pavement on the shoulder of the roadway to alert you if you start to drift off the road. If you’re tired or distracted and not paying attention to the road and start to drift off the roadway your tires hit the grooves in the pavement and you hear that sudden sound that alerts you – “HEY! YOU’RE DRIFTING OFF COURSE!”
The same is true in our Christian lives. The Bible tells us to not worry about ANYTHING! To trust God COMPLETELY! And to allow HIM to guide our lives. Our main and truthfully ONLY focus in life should be to KNOW GOD, OBEY GOD, and TRUST GOD. When HE ALONE is the focus of our lives – EVERYTHING else will fall into it’s proper place. He will guide us and direct us as to what we should do with EACH DAY.
When we start getting discouraged, depressed, worried about stuff – those are “grooves in the pavement”, those are signs that alert us “HEY! YOU’RE DRIFTING OFF COURSE!” They tell us it’s time we spend a while with God, we’re not trusting Him completely, we’re not letting Him have complete control of our lives. We’ve allowed other things to distract us from following the course HE has laid out for us.
Yes, we ALL can start to drift off course in our lives. It’s human. But, we need to WAKE UP when the “grooves” in the pavement alert us that something’s wrong in our walk with God. We need to REFOCUS our attention on HIM!
Just like the grooves in the pavement on a roadway will alert you you’re drifting. They won’t stop you from running off the road and crashing. They just let you know “HEY! WAKE UP!”. And that’s how it is with our lives. If we don’t WAKE UP and refocus on God, our lives will spiral downhill and we will crash spiritually. WE MUST KEEP OUR FOCUS ON HIM!
How long has it been since you talked with the Lord
And told him your heart’s hid in secrets?
How long since you prayed?
How long since you stayed on your knees till the light shone through?
How long has it been since your mind felt at ease?
How long since your heart knew no burden?
Can you call him your friend?
How long has it been since you knew that he cared for you?
How long has it been since you knelt by your bed
And prayed to the Lord up in heaven?
How long since you knew that he’d answer you
And would keep you the long night through?
How long has it been since you woke with the dawn
And felt this day is worth living?
Can you call him your friend?
How long has it been since you knew that he cared for you?.
