Last year in Ghana, a five-story building collapsed killing at least nine people and injuring many more. The building had been built only 9 months before the collapse. When discussing the disaster, an official said, “The foundation was not good enough.” That’s what caused it to collapse – a faulty foundation.
In building structures, foundations are critical! In fact no building is better than its foundation. It doesn’t matter how ornate or fancy a building may look or how cool the design may be – if the foundation isn’t good, it runs the risk of collapsing. The same is true with our lives. FOUNDATION IS CRITICAL!
At the end of Jesus “sermon on the mount,” He added these important words, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.” (Matthew 7:24-27)
In this life, there is only one secure foundation: a genuine, deep relationship with Jesus Christ and the MOST IMPORTANT thing in this life is making sure we have that secure foundation on which we are building our lives. If we are content to build our lives on the shaky foundations this world offers, we’re doomed – but if we build our lives on Jesus Christ and the promises in His Word, NOTHING can destroy us.
This is why it is SO SO SO IMPORTANT that we focus our attention and our lives on Jesus and seek HIM FIRST. “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33) That’s the FIRST and CRITICAL step in building the foundation of the rest of our lives – JESUS FIRST. His Kingdom, His Righteousness, His Glory, His Honor, His Praise – Doing what is PLEASING and OBEDIENT to HIM!!
When our foundation is securely anchored in the Rock of Ages, NOTHING at ALL can destroy us. Oh yes, there will still be storms in this life – but when they come, we have NOTHING to worry about or fear, as long as our foundation is anchored in Him.
In times like these, you need a Savior
In times like these you need an anchor
Be very sure, be very sure
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock
This Rock is Jesus, Yes, He’s the one
This Rock is Jesus, The only One
Be very sure, be very sure
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!
