C. T. Studd grew up in a wealthy family in the 1800’s in England. He was a cricket player for England and was destined for fame and fortune. However, he gave it all up to become a missionary to China. He is quoted as saying “Only one life ’twill soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last.”
Several years later, we find him in the cold dark winter in China. He and a fellow missionary were spending the night in a very dilapidated hut. It was a very cold and uncomfortable place and they had hardly nothing to keep them properly warm throught the night. It was hard to sleep because of the cold and unforgiving situation, and in the middle of the night, the other missionary awoke to find C. T. Studd sitting in the corner with a blanket wrapped around him and shivering from the cold. By candlelight, Studd was reading his Bible. The missionary colleague asked why he was doing that in the middle of the cold dark night. C. T. Studd replied “I felt something was wrong in my relationship with God, and so I am reading through the entire New Testament to check all of His commands to me in case I have unwittingly violated any of them.”
A very cold and dark situation, many other things to occupy his mind, and yet ALL he was concerned about was had he broken God’s commandments??? Yes, C. T. Studd was THAT concerned about his relationship with Jesus Christ. Oh, if only we had people in the world today who were that concerned about doing what God commands us to do and obeying His Word. It is THAT important! Obeying God! The average Christian doesn’t even stop to think about the MANY commandments we break everyday, and yet we wonder why our relationship with Him is not all it could be.
Jesus said in John 14:15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” That should be THE most important thing in our lives EVERYDAY!!! It’s THAT important!
