“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” (Romans 1:16)
D. L. Moody was an evangelist who lived from February 5, 1837 – December 22, 1899. He founded the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, which is still in operation today. When he became a Christian, he made a promise to God that he would not allow a single day to go by without at least telling one person about Jesus Christ. One evening as he lay in bed trying to go to sleep, he couldn’t understand why he was having such a hard time falling asleep until it dawned on him that he had not spoken to anyone that day about Christ. Even though it was almost 10 o’clock at night, he arose from his bed, dressed, and walked out into the cold dark night of Chicago. He found a man standing by a lamp post down the street and went to tell him the good news of the Gospel. The man did not accept Christ that night, but several days later came to find Moody and there gave his heart and life to Jesus.
I wonder, do we care enough about others to make such a pledge? Not allowing a single day, or even perhaps a single week to go by without telling someone the good news that we know about Jesus Christ? Or are we too afraid people will laugh at us, or people will even get angry with us for mentioning God to them?
If we drove down a street one evening and passed a house that was on fire, and we knew there were still people in that house, but yet we just shrugged it off and said, “I don’t have time to stop.” people would think we were the most selfish and rude person in the world. Yet, we walk past and even talk to people everyday who are dying and on their way to a Christless eternity in the flames of hell and we do nothing about it.
J. C. Ryle said, “Tell the young, tell the poor, tell the aged, tell the ignorant, tell the sick, tell the dying – tell them all about Christ. Tell them of His power, and tell them of His love; tell them of His doings, and tell them of His feelings; tell them what He has done for the chief of sinners; tell them what He is willing to do until the last day of time; tell it to them over and over again. Never be tired of speaking of Christ. Say to them broadly and fully, freely and unconditionally, unreservedly and undoubtingly, ‘Come unto Christ, as the penitent thief did; come unto Christ, and you shall be saved.'”
We should never grow tired of speaking of our Savior. We should never tire of telling others the awesome news that Jesus Christ died to save them! People all over this world are searching for answers, looking for hope, and seeking happiness. As a Christian, we know the ONE who has ALL the answers, the ONE who ALONE gives hope, and the ONE who is the AUTHOR of TRUE HAPPINESS – JESUS CHRIST. What are we doing to tell others?
