One can read hundreds of stories over the past couple of hundred years as small towns and even large towns have gone bust after a factory closed or after a coal mine was completely mined out.
You can see main streets that are empty now and even complete towns that are abandoned as the source of the town’s economic boom has dried up. During the gold rush of the 1800’s some towns were basically created over night as thousands of people came to find gold, but soon all of the gold was found and the town abandoned with buildings left standing and sometimes with stores even half stocked with goods.
The problem is, the majority of these towns were dependent upon the large factory, the coal mine, the gold rush, and other things to bring in the people who would buy the products and keep the towns economy going. After factories closed, the mines were abandoned, and all of the interest was gone – there was nothing left to meet the needs of the towns, so they too eventually were lost.
Aren’t you glad we as Christians don’t have to depend upon anything but Almighty God? In the Bible, we read how God had ravens bring food to Elijah. God caused water to flow from a rock in the desert when the nation of Israel was traveling through. God fed over 5000 people with a couple of fish and small loaves of bread. God is the Creator, King of Kings, and Lord of Lords – HE NEVER GOES OUT OF BUSINESS!!
Paul reminded the church at Philippi, “And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19). His supply is ENDLESS and as long as we are trusting Him, keeping His commandments, and doing what is pleasing in His site – we don’t have to depend on a SINGLE OTHER SOURCE!
Factories will fail, coal mines run out of coal, and gold will no longer be found – but God is the SAME yesterday, today, and FOREVER! The same God who supplied the needs of those people we read about in the Bible is the same God we can know and trust TODAY! And He will supply our needs as well.
Remember what Jesus Christ said in Matthew 6:24-34 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
God is Faithful – TRUST HIM, OBEY HIM, and LET HIM CONTROL YOUR LIFE!
