I watched a video online recently about how they hand build the Bentley motorcars. It was amazing all of the extra time, energy, and effort they put into one of these cars making sure ever thing is absolutely perfect down to the last detail. The video stated that they spend over 13 hours just hand stitching the leather wrapped steering wheel. Thirteen hours just to make sure the hand stitching on a steering wheel is perfect. As I was watching this, I thought to myself, “How much time do we spend making sure our relationship with Jesus Christ is perfect?
The narrator on the video stated that the Bentley motorcars have to be built to such perfection because they cost a large amount of money, and customers who spend that kind of money demand that the finished product be flawless. And yet, a motorcar is still just a lot of metal, leather, electronics, etc., and one day will be gone. Yet, our relationship with Jesus Christ is for all of eternity.
And the same can be said for many sort of temporary things in this life – people spend hours of time, lots of money, and extreme effort to make sure what they are doing comes out absolutely perfect – yet they seem to not care the least bit or at least not half as much how their relationship with Jesus Christ comes out.
The mere fact that Almighty God and His Son, Jesus Christ value a relationship with us should motivate us to spend all of the time necessary to seek to increase that relationship and make it the best relationship we could possibly know in this life.
At one time in the video, they showed a worker with a huge sheet of leather laid out over a table, and he was going over it painstakingly with a magnifying glass to see if there were even the slightest flaw. If he even found just a pin prick sized flaw, he would discard that piece of leather. Yet, we seem to not care what flaws, sins, pride, selfishness, and other things are daily in our lives and keep us from growing in our relationship with Jesus Christ.
The Apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 3:8, “Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ”. He meant that the VALUE of KNOWING JESUS CHRIST was worth FAR more than ANYTHING else in this life.
Having a DAILY – Life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ is PRICELESS, and we should put forth as much effort, time, and energy as we possibly can in KNOWING Him and Growing CLOSER to Him EACH DAY!!
