So many people want a quick-fix to everything wrong in their life. That’s the society we live in today – instant everything. However, there is no quick fix in the Christian life. Just like living a healthy life takes work and is a process, the same is true with our faith in God. People don’t instantly get from being over weight to being healthy. They have to put forth effort, watch what they eat, exercise, etc., In other words – do the right things.
We read God’s promises in the BIble about how He will give us strength. “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13) Well, how does He give us that strength? It’s not instant…we have to read His Word, obey His commandments, follow Him, etc., that’s how we get the strength. We read about how God will guide our lives and make straight our paths. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil.” (Proverbs 3:5-7) The Bible clearly lays out the process for getting His guidance – learn to trust Him. Realize He is God and in control over everything. Turn away from sin. And through all that process, He will guide and direct our lives.
Look at 1 Peter 1:5-8 “For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Note how he tells us if these values and qualities are our (in other words if we are learning them and adding them to our faith), AND they are INCREASING, THEN we will grow in our knowledge of Jesus Christ.
There is NO quick fix to the Christians life. It takes EVERYTHING we have, if we want to experience EVERYTHING God has to offer. Stop trying to hang on to the stuff that only slows you down, and learn to FORSAKE ALL and TRUST HIM!
