“Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” (Colossians 3:1-3)
With the vast array of stuff available to us in today’s technological age, there is hardly any reason to not be constantly filling our minds with things that inspire us and cause us to daily and hourly focus on God. We have audio books, ipods and iphones with apps to listen to Christian music, the Bible, Christian programming, etc.,
I was listening to a Christian audio book today on my way to work, and when I got to the parking garage at my office, I just sat there for a couple of minutes longer just to hear more of it. Definitely a good way to start the day.
Jesus said in John 15:1-5 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
How do we abide in Him if we never spend any time with Him? The more time we spend thinking about God, talking to Him, meditating on His Word, etc., – the less time we will have to think about things that may lead us astray. What we fill our hearts and minds with determines how everything else in our life goes.
If you don’t have time to read the Bible each morning – listen to it on audio CD or on your iphone or ipod. However, we should MAKE time to read His Word, after all that is the GUIDE to our life! David wrote in Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
