On December 10, 1936, King Edward VIII gave up his throne in order to marry a commoner. King Edward was in love with Mrs. Wallis Simpson, not only an American, but also a married woman already once divorced. The British government was opposed to the marriage, so he gave up being King in order to marry Wallis. He valued that relationship more than he valued being KING!
Many other people have given up their inheritance or other things that people would call valuable just in order to have a relationship with a certain person. People do a LOT of things in today’s world and have for years chasing after relationships, because they value the relationship more than they value the other stuff.
And there are those who spend lots of time, money, and effort chasing after relationships that they never have, because the person they so desperately desire to have a relationship with is not interested or for some other reason is not willing to pursue the relationship.
Lots and lots of efforts are put forth in our world trying to have the right relationships including personal relationships, business relationships, friendships, and others. But, I wonder how much effort do we put forth seeking a relationship with Almighty God?
Like King Edward, who gave up the throne to have a relationship, are we willing to give up whatever it takes to have a relationship with God and His Son Jesus Christ? After all – that IS the MOST VALUABLE relationship we could ever possibly hope to have.
The Bible plainly tells us what it will cost us to have this relationship:
“…you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul.” (Deuteronomy 4:29)
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”(James 4:8)
“If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.” (John 14:23)
We have to give up this world and our sinful selfish desires to have the ultimate relationship with God. And, if we seriously consider that – what could there possibly be in this world that is more valuable than a REAL LIFE CHANGING RELATIONSHIP with the KING OF HEAVEN anyway?
The great thing about pursuing a relationship with God is – HE also wants and desires this relationship! After all – He loved us enough to send His only Son to die for us! We spend countless efforts chasing after relationships in this world, and many times the relationships are NOT the ones that will make our lives better. However, NOTHING can make our lives better than having a GENUINE DAILY RELATIONSHIP with God!! NOTHING should be more desired or valuable to us!!
Seek God with ALL of your Heart!! Once we have that PERSONAL relationship with Him, ALL of our other relationships will fall into place and will happen according to His PERFECT will.
“Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)
