In Matthew 23:37 we read the words of Jesus Christ, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!” Jesus came to save the world and the world hated Him, there were NOT interested. They killed the prophet and stoned His messengers – and then they crucified Him!
And in Luke 19:41-44 we find Jesus again lamenting over that city: “And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, ‘Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.'”
In Romans 10:13, we are given that great and precious promise “For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” ANYONE who truly wants to know God – the door is WIDE open! However, most people today and in history past are too caught up in their selfish desires, their worldly ambitions, and the wicked sin to humble themselves and seek Him.
He offers salvation and an amazing life to ALL – but we have to come on His terms. I was at the hospital with my father who was getting some blood work done this morning, and I sat there in the waiting room with tears welling up in my eyes as I saw person after person in such a sad state of hopelessness and pain and I wondered “Do they know Jesus? Or are they some of the people who are not willing to come to Him? What holds them back?” And I wished they would just let me sit in that hospital entryway with a Bible and some Gospel tracts – but no that’s not politically correct today….people don’t want God messing up their “life” even though their life is a mess without Him.
What is holding you back from Truly following Him today? Pride? Selfishness? Love of the world? I tell you a thousand times – it’s NOT worth it! He is of WAY more value than ANYTHING else period! All He asks is that we come to Him emptied of self, humble in spirit, giving Him everything. I wonder how often Jesus looks at America and weeps saying “You were not willing!” People today don’t want Him, yet He ALONE is the ONLY answer to ALL of our problems and ALL of our troubles.
