Psalm 115:3 reminds us of a very important truth, “Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases.” Too often in this life, we question God, and even demand answers from Him as to why He has done something or hasn’t done something in our lives. However, God owes us no explanation, and He can do whatever He feels like doing. He IS God!
In the book of Job, we read the terrible experiences that Job went through. He lost all that he had, even his own children. He underwent terrible pain and discomfort as God allowed Satan to torment him. And do you know that through all of this and even afterwards, it is never recorded that God ever told Job “WHY” he had allowed these things to happen in his life.
It all started when Satan came to talk to God, and God asked him “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil?” (Job 1:8) And Satan said, basically, “Oh yeah…let me mess up his life a little, and he will not be so faithful and blameless.” Job had nothing to do with what was about to happen to him. It was all a result of this conversation between God and Satan.
We know what happened and the end results, but Job never knew why this stuff happened to him. He didn’t write the book of Job, it was written by someone else, recounting what all took place. And yet, the amazing thing is – “In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong.” (Job 1:22)
And, even at the end of the book, when Job questions God, all God does is put Job in his rightful place. He begins by asking “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?” (Job 38:4) Or to sum it all up, He told Job, “I am God, I do whatever pleases me!”
So, when the road gets rough, when difficulties arise, and when we are faced with trials and troubles. We MUST learn to completely trust God. Knowing that no matter what happens, God has a plan. And then we can, like Job, respond, “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted…” (Job 42:2)
We can’t always understand and know what God is doing. However, we can know that He IS God and “Whatever the LORD pleases, He does, In heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps.” (Psalm 135:6)
