As a Bible teacher, speaker, and a Christian in general, one of the most frequent questions I’m usually asked starts with these three words, “Why does God…”? It is most often, “Why does God allow bad things to happen?” But, then it is sometimes, “Why doesn’t God do something about…” or “Why does God let people like that (referring to people who have done terrible things in our eyes) live?
These are all valid questions. I too have asked myself “Why does God…” or “Why doesn’t God…” about many things. The problem comes in trying to answer them. We can just boggle our minds by trying to understand God. Like for example, how does God exist for ever?
Paul wrote in Romans 11:33-36, ” Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, OR WHO BECAME HIS COUNSELOR? Or WHO HAS FIRST GIVEN TO HIM THAT IT MIGHT BE PAID BACK TO HIM AGAIN? For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.”
Yes, it’s natural for us as humans to want to understand why God does somethings and why He doesn’t do other things. And there’s nothing wrong with wanting to know and understand more about God. And the more we study the Bible and learn from the Holy Spirit, the better we can and do understand God. He gives us everything we need each day.
“His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.” (2 Peter 1:3) In His Holy Word, God has given to us everything we NEED to live the life He has called us to live. There are some things we can never know or understand in this life, and then there are some things that we understand better as we grow closer to Him in our personal relationship with God. We just have to place our FAITH COMPLETELY in Him.
FAITH is crucial to a proper relationship with Jesus Christ. Yes, we will still have many questions about stuff that we don’t understand, and yes it’s fine to read and study and try to find answers to these questions. HOWEVER, we should NEVER let the stuff we DON’T understand keep us from obeying Him and trusting Him in the stuff we DO understand!
I have had people tell me, “I’m going to ask you a question about God. And DON’T just say, ‘Oh, you have to have faith!'” But, that is what it ALL boils down to – FAITH in ALMIGHTY GOD. Faith that He is Who He said He is, and Faith that He will do what He said He will do! I realize that’s hard for many people to grasp, especially people who have never trusted in Him, but it is ALL ABOUT FAITH. “without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
I don’t know everything about God, and why He does or doesn’t do certain things. However, I do know enough about Him to trust Him. And I know He has done AMAZING things in my life. So, I’m perfectly content to just say, “I don’t understand or know” about certain things. After all, God is in control of everything – not me. HE IS GOD, and I love Him and Trust Him more each day!
Trust Him TODAY and let GOD worry about tomorrow!
