William Randolph Hearst, the legendary newspaper publishing magnate, was one of the wealthiest men of his time. His great wealth allowed him to spend millions of dollars collecting art treasures from around the world. One day he read the description of a valuable piece of art and promptly dispatched his agent abroad to locate the piece and buy it. After months of searching, the agent finally reported that he had found the treasure. Where was it? To Hearst’s great surprise, it was stored in one of his own warehouses, having already been purchased by him years earlier.
So many Christians are still seeking and searching for something to satisfy their lives and to bring them happiness, when all the while – if we have Jesus Christ, we ALREADY have everything. We too often treat Jesus Christ and Christianity as just an app like we have on our iphones or something that we can just “add” to our life and access it whenever we want or need it. However, TRUE Christianity isn’t just something we “add” to our life. True Christianity is something that COMPLETELY changes our life! It is like adding a totally NEW operating system to the way we live, the way we act, and what we seek after.
If you are TRULY a Christian, and you are still not satisfied and happy and content, that’s because you’re NOT seeking after God with ALL of your heart. Oh, you may be seeking Him when you have time, and when you’re not busy with other things, but NO…to TRULY KNOW HIM, He has to be the ONLY treasure we are seeking after. Solomon wrote in Proverbs 8:17, “I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.”
Hebrews 11:6 tells us, “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” Salvation is simply placing our complete faith in Jesus Christ and turning from our sin to the Saviour. But, that’s just the beginning. AFTER we come to know Him personally as our Saviour, we must seek Him daily and follow after what HE wants.
Lamentations 3:25, “The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, To the person who seeks Him.” Psalm 119:2, “Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart”
Over and over in God’s Word, it reminds us that what should be MOST important in our life is to SEEK GOD. He will put everything else in our life in it’s proper place when we seek Him daily.
If you already know Him as your Saviour, then you already have the greatest treasure there could possibly be found. So, why waste your time seeking after OTHER things? When you ALREADY have what you need?
“The LORD has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there are any who understand, Who seek after God.” (Psalm 14:2)
