We get all bent out of shape when someone pulls in front of us, goes too slow, or cuts us off in traffic. We grumble and complain when a cashier charges us .15 cents too much for an item, or short-changes us by a nickle. We yell “unfair” when we don’t get as many gifts on our birthday or at Christmas as someone else does. And the list goes on and on of all the things that cause anxiety in our lives…yes, sadly even in the lives of most Christians.
However, in the short and long run, NONE of that stuff matters at all. So, someone pulls out in front of us, we have to quickly put on our brakes….does it matter? No. So what, the cashier charges us a dime more than we thought the item was supposed to cost…does it really matter?….No! In truth – to the Christian NONE of those things matter. We are ONLY here in this world to bring honor and glory to God and to be an example of the believers to those who don’t know Him.
And…once these things have happened, there is nothing we can do to change most of them, nor is it worth the effort it takes. If only we would remember that we are only here on this earth for a VERY short period of time, and that while this world spins madly out of control – God has promised He will provide all our needs, He will protect and guide us, and that NOTHING can happen to us outside of His perfect plan.
That’s why Jesus said, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life…. ” and “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow”. (Matthew 6:25 and 34). All we need to be focused on is knowing Him, obeying Him, and pointing others to Him. That’s all that REALLY matters!
So, the next time someone pulls in front of you in traffic, short-changes you at the check-out, or forgets your birthday….just stop and remind yourself “It doesn’t really matter!”
