In Mark 6, we read the story about how Jesus used just five loaves and two fish to feed five thousand! “And taking the five loaves and the two fish he looked up to heaven and said a blessing and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all. And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish. And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men.” (Mark 6:41-44)
Jesus had just proven again how through Him nothing was impossible, and that as the Son of God, He could handle any problem or difficulty that was to come.
However, let us look just a short while later (the Bible doesn’t tell us exactly how many days later) in chapter 8. Again, we see Jesus teaching another great crowd of four thousand people. And they face the same problem, nothing to eat. Look at his disciple’s perplexing question in Mark 8:4; “And his disciples answered him, “How can one feed these people with bread here in this desolate place?'”
Hadn’t he just fed 5000 people with only a small amount of food? Did they not remember that? Or were they just too quick to look at the problem instead of the solution – Jesus Christ!? We too often are just like those disciples! We see God help us through one problem or difficulty. We see God provide all of our needs one moment. We see God do something great in our lives or in the lives of someone else. But then, as soon as another difficulty comes along, as soon as another problem rises – we panic! “How am I going to solve this???” When truly all we have to do is look to Jesus!
He is the solution to ALL of our problems. No matter how large or small they may be. Don’t be so quick to forget what He has done in the past not only in our lives, but in the lives of others, and remember – He is God. NOTHING is too hard or difficult for Him!
